TTG BATMAN SEASON 2: THE ENEMY WITHIN FULL WALKTHROUGH
Titled Batman: The Enemy Within – The Telltale Series, the first episode of a new five-parter is just weeks away from release. There may be a question mark over the endgame for the series, but with “Episode 1” being called “The Enigma,” it unsurprisingly points to the inclusion of Edward Nygma, a.k.a. the Riddler. A brief trailer for the sequel teased the arrival of Nygma, who will easily slot in among the other villains of the crime-riddled series. As well as a new face, the video also revealed that the season 1 character John Doe will be making a welcome return. As an early incarnation of the mysterious Joker, Doe looks set to be just as unhinged as his comic book counterpart. Both Bruce and Batman will find themselves balancing on a knife edge this time around, and the Riddler’s cryptic puzzles look to be the least of our worries. The Joker is back alongside the arrival of a ruthless federal agent, which spells trouble for the Dark Knight and his brand of street justice. Nothing is what it seems and players are forced to question who to trust and where to turn for the next part of the story arc. Long-term Batman voice artist Troy Baker will be back as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Anthony Ingruber will once again provide the vocals of John Doe/Joker.
Hoping to bring in new and old players alike, Telltale is offering everyone to come and play. However, if you are returning from season 1, those important decisions you made last time may still affect you with an option to pick up where you left off. The Enemy Within will also feature Telltale’s ‘Crowd Play’ feature, which allows friends and family join together to complete the story.

EPISODE 1: "THE ENIGMA"
Approximately one year after the defeat of the Children of Arkham, Bruce Wayne (Troy Baker) slowly starts regaining his reputation in Gotham City following the unveiling of his parents as criminals. He targets Rumi Mori (Keone Young), one of Gotham City's most notorious arms dealers, who is seen gambling at a casino. However, a mysterious man in a hood captures Mori and takes the casino patrons hostage. Wayne suits up as Batman and reenters the casino and is told by Alfred (Enn Reitel) that the man with the hood is Riddler (Robin Atkin Downes), a criminal mastermind from Gotham City's past who hasn't been seen in several years. Batman saves the hostages and pursues Riddler, who throws a puzzle box at Batman, telling him that if he doesn't solve the riddle hidden within it, people will get hurt. After Riddler escapes, Commissioner James Gordon (Murphy Guyer), Renee Montoya (Sumalee Montano), and the rest of the Gotham City Police Department arrive and arrest Riddler's second-in-command Eli Knable (Alex Hernandez) and the rest of Riddler's henchmen. Batman meets Amanda Waller (Debra Wilson), director of the Agency, as well as Waller's accomplices, Special Agents Iman Avesta (Emily O'Brien) and Vernon Blake (Christian Lanz), who takes over the investigation.
After returning to a re-designed Batcave, Wayne finds that the puzzle box is actually a record, and after playing it, receives a soundwave emitting an unknown signal. He goes to Wayne Enterprises and asks Lucius Fox (Dave Fennoy) to decode it. Lucius tells Bruce that they should bring his daughter Tiffany (Valarie Rae Miller) into the company. After being interrogated by Waller's agents who accuse Bruce of being involved in the recent criminal activity, Bruce is contacted by Lucius who tells him the box is dangerous before he is killed in an explosion. At Lucius' funeral, Bruce reunites with his acquaintance from Arkham Asylum, "John Doe" (Anthony Ingruber), who has been released for good behavior. John asks Wayne for a favor: to meet his friends and join his group, something Bruce can agree or disagree to. After gaining a lead on Riddler on the East End of Gotham City, Commissioner Gordon and Batman are trapped in a booby-trapped hideout, where they must solve a riddle to get out alive. While investigating the area, Batman finds a homing missile and deduces that the signal emitted from the box resulted in an airstrike on Fox's location. Determined to find Riddler, Bruce decides to either go after Mori, who supplied the homing missiles to Riddler, or Eli Knable.
Regardless of the player's choice, Batman discovers that Riddler is on a ship and has taken Waller's top agents hostage. Batman infiltrates the ship but is captured along with Agent Avesta. Riddler gives Batman an ultimatum: if he can solve three of his riddles, Avesta will get deafened by Riddler's sonic signal. If he does not answer a question or provides a wrong answer, Avesta's colleagues will be killed one by one. After Riddler asks Batman the final question, Batman uses his Bat-Cam to target the cage he is trapped in and protects himself and Agent Avesta by using Riddler's deathtrap. Batman once again outsmarts Riddler by redirecting his homing missiles to the sea after Riddler launches them into the city. After being captured and cuffed, Riddler reveals that he was betrayed by the leader of a group called The Pact before an unknown assassin shoots and kills him with a poison dart. Gordon and the GCPD arrive, along with Waller and the Agency. Depending on who Batman interrogated, either Waller demotes Gordon to deputy officer as a result of Batman and Gordon's interference in the case or a strain is put on Gordon's alliance with Batman. After gaining a lead on Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a former psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum and who may be able to provide information on The Pact, Waller reveals to Batman that she knows his secret identity.

EPISODE 2: "THE PACT"
After revealing what she knows, Waller gives Batman an ultimatum: cooperate with her or risk having his identity exposed. Shortly after, several explosions rock Gotham and are confirmed to be the sites of three massive heists. Batman goes to the most serious one, a GCPD arsenal. The heist is spearheaded by a massive masked man who calls himself Bane and who, despite Batman's best efforts, overwhelms him and leaves him buried under rubble while he and his men get away with the weapons. Unable to free himself, Batman calls either Gordon or Waller, getting him information on the other heists and hurting his relationship with the other.
At the Batcave, a recovering Bruce Wayne and Alfred look into the other two heists. They learn that one was at a biotech lab where the area and employees were mysteriously frozen and the other was at a bank and led by Harleen Quinzel. Knowing he can't-do much as Batman, Bruce decides to infiltrate the Pact as himself. With John Doe as his only lead, he decides to take him up on his offer. The two meet at a bar, where John introduces Bruce to Quinzel, who goes by Harley Quinn and who John is in love with, though the feeling isn't mutual. Suspicious of Bruce, Harley gives him a chance to prove himself by stealing the Phalanx Key, which opens any lock, from Wayne Enterprises. When John and Harley unexpectedly join the heist, Bruce manages to stop the latter from hurting both Regina and Tiffany and gets the Key; Harley also takes an EMP dispersal device.
Afterwards, Batman is summoned by Gordon and Waller and sides with one of them, further hurting his relationship with the other. He also learns that Harley was driven insane by her father's suicide. He is then contacted by the Pact and taken, as Bruce, to their headquarters. The Pact consists of John, Harley, Bane, Mr. Freeze (who headed the attack on the bio lab) and their individual henchmen. Bane is unwilling to trust Bruce and though Freeze is more amenable to the idea, especially when he turns off the EMP emitter when John "accidentally" activates it, Harley warns him that he needs a majority vote to join. He wins Freeze over through potentially empty promises and earns either Bane's respect by punishing a traitor, or his ire by sparing him. In the end, the majority votes him in and he's allowed to take part in their latest heist.
The heist is on an armored convoy which they still using the emitter, which also fries the guards' guns, before attacking. With Waller refusing to help, Bruce surreptitiously prevents anyone from killing as they steal a large metal container. Bruce then prevents either Harley or Bane from a brutal rampage, allowing them to get away with the rest while the other is captured. Either John or Freeze is outraged by this event while Harley/Bane uses the Key to reveal the contents of the container: the frozen corpse of the Riddler. They then explain that the next phase of their plan will begin with the arrival of the next component, that has been stolen by Catwoman.

EPISODE 3: "THE PACT"
By episode three, I am at a loss for why many characters are treating me as they are. Allies I have shown nothing but respect and support for are squawking at Bruce like he came into their home on Christmas Day and pissed on the rug, whereas other characters are jumping from "I know you've got my back" dialogue to "I can't even trust you!" in the space of literally seconds. The problem with episode three, Fractured Mask, is it tries to throw in a lot of big moments without any real gravitas building to them. Across the span of just a few hours, I had the option to reveal Batman's identity to multiple characters. I was also given some heavy-handed "It's them or me" situations that really didn't hit the dramatic high-notes intended. Fractured Mask, more than previous episodes, is little more than a series of "Who are you siding with?" choices, most of which feel largely irrelevant. On the positive side, Catwoman (a character I generally don't really care for) is excellently portrayed, with a great vocal performance. Likewise, the series never fails to grip the viewer whenever Wayne and John Doe are one-on-one. All of the conversations between the reluctant BFFs have been brilliant and fascinating, as Wayne attempts to build Doe into the person he could become, over the person we all know he will become. These great character performances, however, serve to reinforce how much of a miss Quinn is, with Harley's repetitive vocal pattern and slipping accent a bad match for her Telltale iteration. A couple of characters, including Season Two's new star Tiffany Fox, almost forget to show up entirely and thus appear in scenes as if dropped in by helicopter, which at least beats bumping into her in a cupboard at 3:00am, à la last episode. It's no secret that, unfortunately, Telltale Games are having problems. This may be reflected in the product, as Fractured Mask re-uses multiple locations from the previous two episodes. Only a cafe veranda serves as a new environment, perhaps speaking to the issues that have befallen the troubled studio lately. Fortunately, I did not encounter any game-crashing bugs in episode three, which troubled many players in last month's The Pact. Although there is some excellent work put in by Catwoman and John Doe, Fractured Mask is ultimately just a series of "Choose A or B" conversations, taking place in overly-familiar locales, with stakes not quite as high as the game would have you believe. With only two episodes remaining, it's going to take something special to kick this story into high gear for the climax. It certainly isn't impossible; even when the chips are down, you can always bet on Bat.
